David Loew

Abstract Artist | Photographer | Visual Explorer
Chicago-born artist David Loew is an accomplished painter and photographer whose work spans decades and continents. With a career rooted in visual storytelling, Loew has explored the boundaries between fine art, design, and commercial creativity — having worked with Playboy Magazine, HBO, Miramax Films, and created cover art for over 250 books by authors such as Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, and Mary Higgins Clark.
His art is deeply influenced by texture, time, and transformation. Loew sees the world as his palette — drawn to the tangled roots of trees, rusted metal, peeling paint, and the layered beauty of decay. For him, every surface tells a story; every mark becomes an artifact of life and memory. His abstract works explore this passage of time — the relationship between what is lived, what is left behind, and what continues to evolve.
Now based in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Loew continues his creative journey through painting, photography, and experimentation with mixed media. His latest exhibition, PASSAGE, ornanised by Pinspired Art Gallery is a reflection on that journey — tracing his evolution as an artist through shifting techniques, materials, and perspectives.
Previous art exhibitions:
In February 2024, David presented his solo exhibition Palimpsest: Memento Mori / Memento Vivere at Mugna Art Gallery, where he explored the tension between life, memory, and impermanence — themes that continue to shape his creative philosophy.
Beyond the studio, David is also the creative mind behind Fermentina Café, a personal project where art, craftsmanship, and culinary experimentation meet. Much like his paintings, the café grows in layers — a living expression of his belief that creativity is a lifelong process of building, observing, and transforming.
For David Loew, art is not just an image on canvas — it’s a conversation with time, texture, and the world around us.
Artist Statement:
"My name is David Loew, and at some point, I realized: there was never a time when I wasn’t an artist. It’s not just a profession, it’s a way of seeing the world.
I was born in Chicago, and throughout my life, I’ve been a painter, photographer, designer, illustrator — I even created book covers for Stephen King and many other authors. But at the core, it has always been about one thing — exploring textures and layers.
I’m inspired by rust on metal, the peeling paint on a church wall, the tangled roots of an old tree. These are traces of time, stories we leave behind.
My new exhibition is called PASSAGE. It’s a journey. A journey of my works, my experiments with different techniques, and the journey of the artist himself, evolving through time.
Today I live in Dumaguete, where I create art and also build a small space called Fermentina — a place that, like my paintings, grows in layers and gains depth with time.
PASSAGE is an invitation to walk this journey with me."
