Jeffrey Q. Guanlao (JickJick)
Jeffrey Q. Guanlao, known as JickJick, is a Filipino surrealist artist whose work explores the shifting forces of morality, fate, and the human condition. Drawing from the challenges of his childhood and symbolic traditions — including allegories of the Seven Deadly Sins and their corresponding virtues, as well as the archetypal language of tarot —his artworks present a world where fortune, temptation, resilience, and redemption coexist.

Self-taught, JickJick began his creative journey in the 1990s as a tattoo artist and body painter. Over more than two decades he has developed a distinctive visual language while building a sustained practice of creating and exhibiting his work. His surreal works often feature enigmatic figures, hybrid creatures, and symbolic landscapes where opposing forces meet: beauty and decay, good and evil, chaos and grace.
JickJick’s artworks invite reflection rather than explanation. Within scenes that balance darkness and wonder, viewers encounter questions about human choices, moral consequence, and the fragile interplay between fate and intention.
His work is included in the permanent collection of the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) and in private collections throughout the Philippines and internationally.
