Rey Labarento captures the unguarded gestures, everyday rhythms, and quiet beauty of Valencia, Negros Oriental through his distinct portrayals of its people and landscapes. Working with materials such as paper and terracotta, he incorporates his signature outlining thread to frame familiar scenes and elevate the ordinary.
Labarento has exhibited locally in Dumaguete City, with his first solo show held at Shelter, and has also shown work in Iloilo City and Cebu City in the Visayas, as well as in Makati City in Luzon. He was part of Mugna Gallery’s presentation at the Visayas Art Fair in 2022. He lives and works in Valencia, Negros Oriental.
Inspired by the book: Two Little Birds
“Each little bird has a part in nature's grand scheme: the earth tilts, the seasons change, and songbirds arrive in new places just as insects hatch, fruits ripen, and flowers bloom.”
The artwork was exhibited at Pinspired Art Gallery during the Onceupon Art Exhibition (Dec 2025–Jan 2026), devoted to children’s storybooks. A portion of the sales supports the Books on Wheel Valencia Mobile Library, promoting literacy and a love for reading among children.
