Meditative Fabric Artist
Madhu is an Ilongga who studied Architecture at the University of San Agustin Iloilo. Equipped with just a few rolls of handmade paper and the desire to express her art, she brought her creative passion to the island of Boracay, where she created art from fabric bikini scraps sewn by the local sewers.
Her FIRST SOLO SHOW titled "ANARINDA" was at Mango Ray Boracay on Dec 12, 1992. This was followed by two more undocumented artshows which were held at The Red Coconut and The Sandcastle, also on Boracay Island. Her love for textile and fabric later brought her to the weavers of Sagada and other places in the Cordillera, which she lived for 20 years. Making her place among the clouds, she turned her home into an art laboratory for her experiments with natural dye, seeds, beads and handwoven fabric scraps, and maintained it as a place for collaboration with the village children.
Several artshows with visiting foreign and local artists were held there at St. Joseph's Sagada and at The Log Cabin between 1994 and 1999. She also owned and managed the Cosmic Tea, which was a tea and art hub for crafty inspiration for artists and tourists from 2009-2011. Her 4th Solo.
Show titled "PROPHETIC DREAMS" was at KBox Gallery in Tacloban City on Nov 3, 2017. Her 5th Solo Show titled "ART BEFORE DISHES" was held at Festive Walk Iloilo on Dec 2, 2018. She has joined several group art shows in Denmark, Poland, Germany, Sweden and in various places all over the Philippines. Madhu's art and neo humanist advocacy also extend to holding art beyond walls.
She was the founder of ART THAT HEALS, an Art Program for in-risk kids and youth. Her art evolved from the wisdom of the tribes to the higher awareness of the One Universal Truth, that Art is the bridge between heaven and earth. She is currently based in Zarraga, Iloilo where she opened her naturally evolving art studio under the big tree.
Her interests had evolved into working with upcycled patchwork wearable art and experimenting with Natural Dyes which she learned and was mentored by the elders of the Tingian Tribe of Peñarubia Abra.
